Introduction & Purpose

LeisureDome is pleased to present its proposals to deliver a regional extreme sport and recreation facility at Locking Parklands, Weston-super-Mare.

The LeisureDome vision is to create a year-round, weather-reliable destination, where people of all ages can engage in skiing and high energy leisure activities as well as relaxing over a meal or enjoying the health club in addition to meeting & conference facilities that will add to Weston-super-Mare's offer for local businesses.

The LeisureDome will include an indoor surfing centre, an indoor sky-diving facility, a children's activity centre & creche, an indoor skateboard and BMX park, an indoor climbing centre, a health and fitness spa & gym, and sport related shops, restaurants and bars.

Locking Parklands has been selected as the preferred location following a comprehensive site search within the town.

Why Weston-super-Mare?

LeisureDome has identified Weston-super-Mare as a destination for the following reasons:

there is currently no regional offer in the South West, people currently drive to Tamworth or Milton Keynes to experience similar facilities.

proximity to M5 and ability to tap into 28 million vehicles which pass Junction 21 every year.

it meets North Somerset District Council commitment to increase and diversify its tourism facilities.

LeisureDome will provide a landmark tourist attraction.

6.15million people live within a 2 hour drive time catchment.

complements the newly open Pier on the Seafront, Helicopter Museum, and a diary of events including: T4 on the Beach and Weston Beach Race.

THE PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE...

The focus of the proposed development is:

a 210m long indoor ski slope, the longest in the UK, with capacity for up to 250 people on the snow at any time.
a wide training slope and a children's snow fun area.
main ski run has varying gradients to recreate the slopes of the mountains and meet the requirements of skiers and snowboarders at all levels of ability.
a year-round leisure attraction.
